Lesson I: 1/31/19

Today was my first lesson with Linda. I chose And So It Goes, by Billy Joel as my piece to work on for fun. I learned how to break down a piece in order to learn it in the most effective way. Start with one line-maybe not even the full chords, just the lead line. Then go to the left hand, if its difficult, play on its own. If not, try and add the left hand with the piano lead line. For accompanying the voice, look at the chords written and play that in your left while playing the lead in the right. You can play with it!

I also began to learn about certain fingering patterns, as well as how to build chords for warm ups.

Things I learned this semester:

- Basic finger patterns for scales (C D E G and A Major)

- Learn some of the piano "lingo" in books, like the fingering pattern reccomendaitons

- Gained more skill reading bass clef

- Practiced sight reading from the Alfred Book and from selected church hymns

- Learned Phillip Glass's Metamorphosis 5
